Patches 101

HOW TO APPLY PATCHES

Patches can be applied with an iron or heat press. They can also be sewn on or applied with fabric glue such as Aleene's Fabric glue.

The back of the Patch has a heat activated glue. Cotton or Cotton blends tend to be the easiest fabric to work with. Thick fabric such as denim may take a little more time and pressure for the glue to penetrate the fabric.

HOUSEHOLD IRON:

COTTON SETTING Because temps of household irons vary greatly, please test small area of the fabric to make sure it can withstand the heat. You may need to lower or raise the temp depending on your iron.

Place Teflon or parchment/baking paper on top of patch. Do not place iron directly on patch.

Do Not move

the iron back and forth. Simply place the iron in 1 spot, pressing down on the iron to apply pressure so the glue penetrates the fabric. After 30 second, pickup the iron and move it to another area of the patch. You may need to do this multiple times to cover all areas of the patch.

HEAT PRESS

320F for 30 seconds at heavy pressure.

Lay patch on garment at the placement desired. Cover patch with Parchment paper (or Teflon paper made for heat pressing).

Press for 30 seconds. Rub patch area (especially corners) with a cloth over the parchment paper. this just helps the glue sink into the garment with extra pressure.

Remove Parchment. Turn garment inside out and press from inside. This just gives extra heat to assure the glue penetrates the material. Make sure you lay Teflon or parchment on the bottom of your heat press so the ink dye does not transmit to your heat press.

Let cool. Test the corners to make sure they have securely adhered to the garment.

Dry clean or Handwash and hang to dry.

If you need to iron patch, make sure to place Teflon or parchment on top. Do not place iron directly on patch.
