Rhinestones 101
The rhinestones have a heat activated glue on the back/flat side of the rhinestone and can be applied with a household iron or professional heat press.
To apply the transfer with a household iron, you can follow these steps:
- Set the iron to Cotton setting. If you're using a steam iron, use the dry setting.
- Remove the white plastic backing from the transfer.
- Position the transfer face up on the fabric in the place(clear transfer paper will be on top of rhinestones, with the sticky side of the paper against the fabric)
- Press: Using pressure, hold the iron down on the transfer for 20-30 seconds. Do not move iron back and forth. Press each section of the transfer until all sections have been heated.
- Cool: Let the rhinestones cool down.
- Peel: Slowly peel off the clear plastic transfer paper.
-
Press again: Press the iron directly on the design for another 10-15 seconds.
If using a heat press, set temp to 320F. Press for 20-25 seconds with medium pressure. Remove paper and press again for an additional 10-15 seconds.
Consider the fabric: Different fabrics require different heat settings and care. For example, cotton can handle high heat well, while polyester may be more sensitive. Delicate fabrics like silk should be ironed through a pressing cloth. Test the fabric for the amount of heat it can tolerate before pressing on the transfer.
Check the rhinestones: Gently pick at the rhinestones to make sure they're well attached.
Protect the transfer: Cover the transfer with parchment or baking paper to protect it while ironing.
